If you are missing one or several teeth in a row, our dentist may recommend replacing them with a dental bridge to restore your smile.
What Are Dental Bridges?
Dental bridges are a type of prosthetic tooth replacement. They are a “fixed” restoration, meaning that they are nonremovable. Bridges work by “bridging” the gap caused by missing teeth, restoring your appearance as well as your oral function. A bridge consists of one or more prosthetic teeth anchored to crowns on either side of the gap or to dental implants. These crowns or implants should keep the bridge in place and ensure that it will not shift or come loose.
When Are Dental Bridges Recommended?
Aside from replacing missing teeth, dental bridges work to:
- Restore your ability to speak and eat normally
- Alleviate excess stress on your bite caused by missing teeth
- Improve the shape and volume of your face
- Replace a removable partial denture
- Prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of place
- Improve the appearance of your smile
The Dental Bridge Procedure
Most dental bridges can be completed in just two visits to Absolute Dental Care. At the first appointment, our dentist will take scans and impressions and prepare your teeth to receive the bridge. Traditionally, this means preparing the adjacent teeth to receive the crowns that will anchor the bridge, though if you are receiving a bridge anchored by an implant it may instead involve the placement of your implant posts. At the second appointment, the completed bridge will be placed in your mouth to complete your treatment.
